This past weekend saw an important race in Portugal, organized by Modelcar, with the top Portuguese drivers in attendance. Representing GS were Miguel Matias, Carlos Duraes, along with Jorge Torres. Borja Hernandez could not attend due to transportation problems caused by poor weather.
Matias with a CLX prototype and Duraes, with CL-1 Advanced, were the class of the field. Miguel took TQ, placing 2nd, 1st, and 1st in the three qualifying rounds. Carlos had some electric issues during the heats and qualified only 7th. Miguel won his semi-final, with Carlos 2nd, the only drivers able to make 39 laps. In the Final, Miguel dominated from the beginning until the end, with Carlos in 2nd. Third was the X-Ray driver Ricardo Monteiro, and fourth was the CL-1 Advanced of Jorge Torres, with a total of 7 GS cars in the Final.
Despite the heavily tested, used and abused CLX prototype chassis, Miguel drove a splendid final, with no mistakes. Carlos managed to stay with Miguel for most of the main and only started to lose time after about the 30 minute mark. Miguel finished 1 lap ahead of Carlos and 4 laps ahead of the third place car. Carlos did the fastest lap of the final (28.935) and Miguel the 2nd fastest (29.146).
