Boost Bottle Installation

1.How To: Install A Boost Bottle On Your Nitro Engine 1. There are a couple of ways to install a Boost Bottle system. First, check to see if your engine already has a pressure fitting installed. Some engines already come with a pre-installed pressure fitting or with a plugged pressure tap. If your engine has a pressure fitting installed, simply attach the boost bottle with a short piece of fuel tubing. If your engine has a plugged pressure tap (fig.2), simply remove the nut screw and screw in the pressure fitting. Connect the fuel tubing from the boost bottle to the pressure tap, and you’re all set (fig.3). Keep in mind, the shorter the fuel tubing, the better, so secure the boost bottle as close to the engine as possible (this goes for all boost bottle applications.)

2. For engines without a pre-threaded hole, first check the type of carburetor locking mechanism on your engine. There are two types, clamp down & screw down, the difference is that one uses a long screw that goes through the engine alongside the carburetor to clamp it in place, (clamp down, all shown here). The other uses a screw that threads straight into the carburetor to hold it in place, (screw down). For screw down carbs, simply remove the screw, and screw in the pressure fitting w/gasket, securing the carburetor in place. Connect the fuel tubing from the boost bottle to the pressure fitting (fig.3), and you’re ready to go.

3. Clamp down carbs require you to drill a hole for the pressure fitting on either side of the plenum of your engine (fig.1) or crankcase line (fig.2) where your crankshaft will open up for air intake. Determine what side of the engine the boost bottle will be before drilling (remember the shorter the fuel line the better). You will need a No.5-40 UNC size drill and tap. Before drilling your engine, drill and tap a hole in a scrap piece of metal to ensure proper fit. After drilling, clean engine and carb thoroughly, to remove any left over debris. Thread in pressure fitting & connect fuel tubing from boost bottle. You’re all done. |
